Getting There
Villa Giulia is located in the town of Fano, a beach resort in the Marche region of Italy. The closest airports are:
Ancona Falconara Airport (AOI) - 23 miles / 40 min drive
Rimini Federico Fellini Airport (RMI) - 31 miles / 45 min drive
Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Airport (PEG) - 73 miles / 1h 40m
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) - 100 miles / 1h 50m
Depending on when you want to arrive, there are a range of different flight options available. I’ve listed some examples here. All of the airports are connected to Fano via train, and of course there are hire cars, Uber etc available to get from the airport to Villa Giulia.
We are flying on the 08:15 Ryanair flight from Manchester to Bologna on Mon 15 Sep 2025. You can book the same flight here. Cool kids are at the back (rows 29-33).
By Train
Bologna Airport (BGY) is the closest major airport to Villa Giulia. The train from Bologna is the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to get there. From the airport, there is a 7-minute transfer to Bologna Centrale (the main train station of Bologna). From there you can get a direct train to Fano for about £13. You can book the train ahead of time on trainline.com, or just do it when you’re there. It’s then a 10-minute taxi ride from Fano station to Villa Giulia.
By Car
If you fancy cruising along the Adriatic coast in a Fiat 500 with the top down, then its about 100 miles direct from Bologna airport to Villa Giulia. This will take you approximately 2 hours with a stop. The airport has several car hire companies like Budget, Avis and Europcar, and you can get a car for 3 days for around £80.
(We did this last time and it was dead easy. It’s basically one long motorway all the way there.)
By Foot
It’s about 1,200 miles door to door from the Riverside, so give yourself at least 2 weeks if you fancy doing the journey by foot.
